Its structure is based on an alternation between an interview with the Canadian director of the organization to which the title refers and activities at a summer camp on Lake Magog. But Jutra undercuts the documentary claim to objectivity by locating the interview at a radio station where interviewer and interviewee compete with each other for control over what will be said (and thus shown). The interview provides a commentary but frequently cues images that illustrate its points in excessive or playful ways.
His commitment to progress aligned him with the "modernist" desire to sweep away outmoded traditions, but his films are much more ambivalent about the relations between past and present.
