Restorative Hypnotherapy

E-mail Print PDF

Restorative Hypnotherapy is a unique synthesis of three powerful modalities for transformation and healing – hypnosis, meditation and yoga – working together to release deep tensions and holdings in the whole body-mind through profound physical, mental and emotional relaxation.

This is a radically different approach — no forcing, no pushing. Learning to relax so profoundly that you tap into a higher consciousness, while at the same time the body lets go of ever-deeper levels of fear and tension that can result in pain and illness. This releases the gripping hold on limiting beliefs, rigid ideas of self and fixation on unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviors.

In this 21st century the nervous systems of many of us are chronically over-stimulated and remain in an almost constant state of “fight or flight,” the stress response, never truly reaching the relaxation response, also known as the “rest and digest” response. It’s no wonder that sleep and digestive aids are two of the most commonly consumed drugs both by prescription and over the counter.

Is relaxation really a key ingredient in changing out-moded behaviors, releasing limiting beliefs about oneself and the world, and healing the body-mind? The answer is a resounding YES. And it’s important to understand what is meant here by relaxation. Relaxation does not mean flopping down in front of the TV with a beer and a cigarette, or a glass of wine and a plate of cheese. It does not mean shopping, or surfing the internet, or eating or doing drugs or talking on the telephone or checking email or any other of the myriad activities we humans have come up with to numb and distract ourselves from our internal discomfort. To relax means to rest deeply, to restore, to rejuvenate. I like the definition of relaxation from physics, “the restoration of equilibrium following disturbance.” (Oxford English Dictionary)

Most of us carry within us the accumulation of a lifetime of the big and little traumas that no one completely escapes. Because as a society we are not very good at processing and releasing these disturbances, and because we are very good at numbing and distracting ourselves from pain and discomfort, the accumulated stress and tension continue to grow and eventually can lead to, among other negative consequences, uncontrollable rage, panic and anxiety attacks and over-reaction to minor irritations, as well as stress-related illness.

You will learn through discussion and by experiencing it how very powerful your mind is and how to use this great power to generate the good in your life that you aspire to, rather than allowing the vast force field within to create chaos and confusion because you have never learned how to harness and direct it. Best part of all, it feels wonderful!!
